In 1701 William of Orange conferred a Dukedom to 10th Earl. The 9th Earl was executed in 1685 due to his involvement in the Monmouth Rebellion. The Campbells played a significant role in the state's affairs and held high-ranking positions which included Lord Justice General of the Hereditary House and the Admiral for The Western Coasts and Isles of Scotland. Its Campbell Clan tartan colors are light blue, light green, and black. The tartan has prominent columns that are separated by black and thick stripes.
