It's based on the Cornish Hunting Modern Tartan whose designer evidently (and accurately) believed that tartan was the common heritage of all Celts and not Scots all by themselves. It is a Hunting Tartan incorporates all the colours of the first National Tartan but with a dark green background. It is also believed it was Royal Blue and Gold were the colors of the Cornish wrestlers.
